Star Wars Astromech droids were primarily used for maintaining and piloting ships. There are twelve different models of Astromech droids that have been included in various Star Wars LEGO sets. The most famous of these droids was R2-D2, but no LEGO Star Wars saga collection is complete without a full set of LEGO Astromech droids.
R2-D2 was the first to be included in a Star Wars LEGO set, and this droid has been reproduced in three different versions. The first version had a white head with gray and blue markings. The version that is included in the newer Star Wars LEGO sets has a gray head with mostly blue markings. There is also a Clone Wars version of the R2-D2 Astromech droid. So far, the Clone Wars version has only been included in the Anakin's Y-Wing Starfighter set.
Other versions of the R2-D2 Astromech droid are easier to locate. The classic R2-D2 minifigure was included in thirteen different sets: 4475 Jabba's Message, 4502 X-wing Fighter, 6210 Jabba's Sail Barge, 6212 X-wing Fighter, 7106 Droid Escape, 7141 Naboo Fighter, 7140/7142 X-wing Fighter, 7171 Mos Espa Podrace, 7190 Millennium Falcon, 7660 Naboo N-1 Starfighter and Vulture Droid, 7669 Anakin's Jedi Starfighter, 7680 The Twilight, and 10144 Sandcrawler. The gray head R2-D2 came with 8038 The Battle of Endor, 8092 Luke's Landspeeder, and 10188 Death Star. There were also two kits that included an R2-D2 with only a head and no body. Those sets are the 7256 Jedi Starfighter and Vulture Droid and the 7282 Ultimate Space Battle.
There were two LEGO Astromech droids that were only included in the 10144 Sandcrawler set. They are the R1-G4 Astromech droid and the R5-D4 droid. The R1-G4 has a very different look from most of the other Astromech droids. Its body has a cylindrical shape, and the droid is mostly green with a yellow stripe in the middle.
R2-Q5 was a black droid that came with the 6211 Imperial Star Destroyer. The droid was incorrectly identified on the Star Wars LEGO set box as R2-D5. The R2-R7 Astromech droid has only appeared in the 7665 Republic Cruiser set. This droid is white with green and gray markings. R4-P44 has a white body with green markings and a green head with silver markings. This Astromech droid appears in the 8088 ARC-170 Starfighter set. R7-A7 is a red Astomech droid that was included in the 7751 Ahsoka's Starfighter and Droids set. R7-F5 is a brown and white droid that comes with 8093 Plo Koon's Jedi Starfighter. R4-D5 was included in 7259 ARC-170 Starfighter, 7150/7152/7262 TIE Advanced & Y-wing, 7180 B-wing at Rebel Control Center, and 65771 Episode III collector's set. The head from this droid was also in the 7143 Jedi Fighter set, identified as R4-P17. The Q7-series Astromech droid appears only in the 6205 V-wing Fighter set, where it is incorrectly identified as an R4-series droid.
R4-G9 is one of the LEGO Star Wars Astromech droids that has been included in a LEGO set as a dome only, with no body. This droid was part of the 7661 Jedi Starfighter with Hyperdriver Booster Ring set. R4-P17 has appeared in two sets, 7143 Jedi Starfighter and 7283 Ultimate Space Battle. Both times, only the head was included in the set.
