The LEGO Jedi Starfighter with Hyperdrive Booster Ring 7661 set contains 575 pieces. The LEGO Star Wars Jedi star fighter ship can be used with the booster ring, or you can detach it from the ring. The starfighter has a cockpit that opens, retractable landing gear, and wings that can be moved into different positions. The booster ring has starfighter connection plate that open and flick-fire missiles. There are three Star Wars minifigures included in the set: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Kit Fisto, and the head from an R4-G9 droid. The LEGO Jedi Starfighter with Hyperdrive Booster Ring set is in the Revenge of the Sith line.
The Star Wars Jedi starfighter that this set is based on was the second starfighter owned by Obi-Wan Kenobi. It was an Eta-2 Actis class light interceptor ship. Obi-Wan's first starfighter, which was red and silver, was destroyed in the Battle of Coruscant. His second starfighter was blue and gray in color. The ship was not large enough to carry an on-board hyperdrive. That is why the hyperdrive booster ring was needed. The Jedi starfighter with hyperdrive booster ring attached was able to make hyperspace jumps. However, the starfighter had to disengage from the booster ring following the jump. This made the starfighter vulnerable. If anything happened to the hyperdrive booster ring before the starfighter returned, the ship and its occupants could be stranded far from home.
The hyperdrive booster ring was powered by ion drives and twin reactors. The hypermatter contained in the ring provided the ballast needed to propel the starfighter through hyperspace. The Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor starship was one of the three most frequent users of hyperdrive booster rings.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi minifigure has appeared in many different Star Wars LEGO sets in a number of variations. In the LEGO Jedi Starfighter 7661 set, he appears in the Episode III pilot variation. The R4-G9 droid that comes with this set was given to Obi-Wan Kenobi by Jedi Master Aayla Secura at the same time he received the blue Jedi starfighter. Only the droid's head is included in the set. This droid has not appeared in any other Star Wars LEGO sets.
The Kit Fisto minifigure first appeared in the LEGO Jedi Starfighter with Hyperdrive Booster Ring 7661 set. However, he has since been included in the 8088 ARC-170 Starfighter set as well as the 852947 Kit Fisto magnet set. The Kit Fisto minifigure comes with a lightsaber.
