R2-D2 is also referred to as R2 in the Original Star Wars Trilogy, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983), as well as the prequel Star Wars Trilogy, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999), Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002), Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005). This is unique because R2-D2 is one of the few Star Wars characters that appears in all of the Star Wars movies.
