Gonk Droid

No LEGO Star Wars set collection can be complete without a Gonk Droid. Short for the GNK Power Droids, this droid is one of the simplest droids in the Star Wars universe. Basically a walking battery, the Gonk Droid provides energy boosts to other droids in need of a power refill. This droid can also be used to provide energy refills to spacecrafts that are low on energy.

Although the Gonk Droid is typically used for military purposes, they can also be owned and used by civilians as well, such as in outer region areas like Tatooine. There are an assortment of different models of these basic, non-complex functional droids. Some models are more complex and advanced than others; for instance, the EG-6. The EG-6 features analytical software, is equipped to detect and measure any spectrum of light, and possesses underwater sonar equipment. Most Gonk Droids consist of simple mobile fusion generators, and are somewhat primitive in their functions when compared to more advanced models such as the EG-6. One model of the Gonk Droid (the Automaton GNK) was used by the Jawas on the planet Tatooine to assist in their trash collection system.

The Jawas use Sandcrawlers to gather discarded droids in the deserts of Tatooine. The Gonk Droid accompany the Jawas during these efforts, assisting other droids which are sent out to pick up whatever scraps are passed over by the Sandcrawler. The Gonk Droid provides the other droids with boosts of energy as needed.

The LEGO Star Wars set 10144 Sandcrawler is a fun and accurate replica of the Sandcrawler model actually used in Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope. LEGOS used an assortment of colors on this piece to bring to life the signs of aging and decay due to constant exposure of sunlight radiating from TatooineĆs twin suns. The Star Wars Sandcrawler set consists of 1669 pieces, and comes with eleven original Star Wars characters mini figures. This includes the Gonk Droid mini figure, which is gray in color and rectangular in shape. The Gonk Droid mini figure was produced in 2003 and 2005, and makes a great addition to any Star Wars LEGOS collection.
