On September 1, 2001 the LEGO 10221 Super Star Destroyer will rise from the LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector’s Series! Among the most gargantuan ships ever designed and build, only four of these monsters were ever built by the Kuat Drive Yards. Darth Vader’s Executor, Ysanne Isard’s Lusankya and Warlord Zinsj’s Iron Fist and Razor’s Kiss all drove fear into the lives of their commander’s enemies. A single Super Star Destroyer had the power to take on an entire fleet of capital ships and still come out as the victor. Now, for the first time the Executor can be yours! An impressive 124.4 centimeters (50 inches) long, this is the longest set ever produced by the LEGO Company and at nearly 8 pounds (3.5 kg), it is also one of the heaviest.
This set contains five LEGO mini figures (Darth Vader, Admiral Piett, IG-88, Dengar and Bossk), a miniature Star Destroyer and the Super Star Destroyer itself. The miniature Star Destroyer is a tiny affair, meant to show the size in relation to the huge craft. The Super Star Destroyer itself has an amazing amount of realistic detail on the hull and command tower. Built into the center of the model is a bridge section large enough to accommodate the minifigures. A section of the hull comes off to reveal realistic monitors for Admiral Piett to command his subordinates from and a walkway for Darth Vader to stand on and talk with the bounty hunters. Set on two stands, this huge set also includes an information display card, making you the envy of the entire galaxy!
The set also features Darth Vader, a redesigned IG-88, Dengar and a never before seen Admiral Piett minifigure. Darth Vader appears in his newest variation that was also used in the Collectors Series 10212 Imperial Shuttle. The chest plate on his environment suit is more detailed, he has a better helmet and a more detailed face. IG-88 has a grey version of the standard battle droid body, using cylinders for a large head that doesn’t seem to fit the size of the minifigure’s body. Redesigned with more detail, Dengar, that mechanically altered bounty hunter, features a unique bandaged head and mechanical suit that looks fairly realistic. This is only the second time Dengar has appeared in a set, the first being in the 6209 Slave 1 (2006 version). Bossk hasn’t changed much, his green smiling head and yellow jump suit will make any target squirm with fear. This is second time Bossk has appeared in a set as well, the first being in the 8097 Slave 1 (2010 version).
An amazing 3152 pieces, this Ultimate Collector’s Series set should only be attempted by the most patient and skilled builders. Recommended for builders age 16 and up, the LEGO Company designed a set that is not fooling around. The small details on the large set are what make it so realistic, but those are also the same details that make it extremely difficult to build. Pace yourself with this build, otherwise you might find yourself making costly mistakes and having to go back over entire sections to figure out what went wrong. All the same though, this would be the perfect crowning achievement for any builder and would make an astounding addition to any LEGO Star Wars collection. As the Executor prepares for the final battle with the Rebel Alliance over Endor, will it turn the tide of battle, or will it fall prey to the Rebel forces? The might of the Executor is at your fingertips; only you can decide what will happen to the largest ship in existence!
