Lego Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

The LEGO Indiana Jones 7682 Shanghai Chase set contains two wonderfully built cars, Indiana’s sporty car and the Chinese Mafia’s black Sedan, and five minifigures. The LEGO mini figures are Indiana Jones, Willie Scott, Short Round and two Chinese Mafia members. Released in January of 2009, this is the first set developed from the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom movie series.

Indy’s tan car is fairly sporty and is almost an exact replica of the car in the movie. The top is a cloth covering, with a flap that characters can stand in and shoot behind the car. The sloped design of the front of the car makes it more aerodynamic and flashy, and the car even has its own hood ornament. There is even a small compartment in the back of the car where one minifigure can fit snugly, though they won’t want to stay there if bullets started flying.

The black Chinese Mafia’s Sedan is a boxier vehicle than Indiana’s car, but that doesn’t mean it loses any speed or class to Indy’s car. The large engine with its three headlights is definitely made for speed, and will certainly give Indy a run for his money. To add to its sleek and speedy image, this sedan actually has fenders that stretch from the front to the back of the car. The top easily comes off to put minifigures in the front and there is a storage area for captured minifigures or treasure inside the back of the truck. Both vehicles measure 5.5 inches (14 cm) in length.

Indiana wears a snazzy white tux, with a red rose and slicked back hair. However, you can put his traditional hat on him as well. Willie Scott wears her red dress and spiked rub comb from the movie as well. She even comes with her own crystal clear ruby. Round Short sports his white ball cap, tan jacket and that tell tale grin that he’s up to no good. The minifigure’s legs are of the shorter variety and aren’t posable like the normal legs. The Shanghai gangsters both wear identical black suits and white ties. Both characters also have black hats that are the same type of hat that Indiana Jones wears. With four revolvers included in this set, there is more than enough weaponry to equip all the characters capable of wielding the guns.

A small, but complex 244-piece set, the recommended building age range for this set is 7 to 14 years old. The cars themselves don’t contain many complex mechanisms, but they are made of many small parts. The abundance of smaller parts might make this set more difficult for younger builders to handle, but older builders should not have any problem at all. This would be a wonderful set for any car-loving builder for sure.

Will Indiana, Willie and Short be able to out run Lao Che’s mafia boys and escape from Shanghai, or will this chase devolve into a shoot out? Have your own adventures, even add in other sets and prepare for the action, adventure and drama that will ensue.
