Released in 2008 as part of the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the LEGO 7628 Peril in Peru set contains the airplane, runway tractor, Russian jeep, moveable stairs and six LEGO mini figures. The six minifigures are Indiana Jones, Mutt Williams, Irina Spalko, Colonel Dovchenko, a regular Russian solider and the pilot. The Russians are all armed with weapons, but the Colonel and soldier are carrying handcuffs to capture the adventures.
The jeep is a smaller vehicle, no more than four inches in length and able to hold a driver as well as cargo or a second minifigure. Reminiscent of the green, short military jeeps, this boxy vehicle will get anyone anywhere. This jeep doesn’t have any flashy decals or a super racy look, but it is a solid, dependable working truck. A spinning sword stand stands ready to hold a couple of the swords available in this set (a samurai katana, straight blade, cutlass and knives are all available for use).
The realistic little runway tractor can haul the wheeled plane stairs or haul the compressed air trailer, quiet a handy vehicle. The air container trailer, it should be noted, also has signaling paddles with it, so minifigures can bring the plane down safely. The trailers use a special ball hatch to be attached to the tractor, but those hitches can easily be pulled out as well. Grey canisters are also available to hold jewels or the crystal skull itself. These canisters are just the right size so that they can easily be loaded up on to the plane. And while all this runway equipment is interesting, the airplane is the most impressive part of this build.
The plane, modeled off of the Douglas Commercial 3 (DC-3), perfectly captures the look of the 50’s utility plane from the movie. The streamline profile, the twin propeller engines, retractable landing gear and the low wings all exactly match the look of the plane used in the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull movie. The plane has cargo space in the back that is easily accessible (side hatches open up to allow you to get inside) and the cockpit has enough room for one minifigure to sit comfortable, though you could also fit a few more minifigures in the cargo area. A durable plane in real life and in this build, this vehicle is ready to be played with and not fall apart.
Indiana Jones is wearing his famous jacket, tan trousers and hat. Carrying around his shoulder bag and whip, he is a most formidable adventurer. Mutt Williams is still dressed in his greaser jacket, slicked back hair and blue jeans. Irina Spalko is sporting the grey military uniform, while her subordinate is stuck in the nasty green jumpsuit. The pilot is wearing a smart white cap and blue flight uniform.
This 625-piece set is quite a large built, involving many different vehicles and two sets of instructions. Though this is the case, the set is still recommended by the LEGO company as being for builders age 7 to 14. A worthy build for any builders, this is a great addition to any LEGO fans’ collection.
