Indiana Jones Classic Adventures Collection

The 7683 Fight on the Flying Wing set contains the World War II vintage plane, the tanker truck and four LEGO mini figures. The minifigures are Indiana Jones, Marion Ravenwood, the Nazi boxing mechanic and the pilot. Released on December 28, 2008, this set is part of the Indiana Jones Classic Adventures collection.

The experimental Flying Wing plane is impressive in and of itself. Large enough to fight on, this plane has a 23 inch (58 cm) wingspan and is 7.5 inches (19 cm) long. Based of the actual Horton HO 229 jet developed by the Nazi’s towards the end of the WWII, this is a very realistic plane. The plane has been modified to match the one appearing the Raiders of the Lost Ark movie to have the propellers instead of jets. Grey with green trim, this is one snazzy looking plane. The wing is made of one large piece with winglets added to the wingtips making the plane sturdy for play. The front wheel turns to allow the plane to travel in any direction while it heads towards the runway, while the rear wheels support the rest of the plane and will swing freely when the plane is not on the ground. The front and rear cockpits can be removed to place minifigures inside, and the rear of the plane features a rotating anti-air turret.

While the set doesn’t actually contain the Lost Ark, it does have a box (not a typical treasure chest) full of treasure. This change was made to give younger builders who had not seen the movie something the heroes can fight over, as they might not understand the significance of the Ark. Removing the central panel in the plane will open up the storage area where you can hide the box full of treasure.

The tanker truck is a solid build in itself, with many small, detailed parts. The stocky flat engine of the truck gives it a blocky profile and the rails on the bottom of the truck are a few of the extra details that make this truck realistic and true to the movie. The fuel barrel on the back spins, but hopefully the truck isn’t leaky.

Indiana Jones sports his favorite jacket, hat, shoulder bag and his whip. Marion is wearing the white blouse, as she was in the movie. She carries a club to beat up whoever gets too close to her. The pilot is wearing a standard flight vest and has the same head as the Hoth Officer from 8083 Rebel Trooper Battle Pack. The boxing mechanic has a mean look on his face, a ripped torso and grey pants, the perfect look for a strong man.

A 376-piece set, this is a complicated build. Recommended by Lego for ages 8 to 14, this is a set that will drive many younger builders beyond their ability. That being said, this set is also likely to test the skills of older builders. A fine set for any builder to attempt and anyone have fun playing with it.

Will Indiana and Marion be able to get the treasure off the experimental plane before it takes off for Germany, or will the leaky tanker truck explode taking everyone with it? Only you can decide!
